Entry level Yamaha vs Onkyo

Hello,
newbie here trying to spend less than $300 on an A/V receiver. I am considering the Yammy RX-V450 and the Onkyo TX-SR503. Does anybody have any thoughts on these two units?

Is this a "Coke or Pepsi" question, or can I expect some real differences in build quality, audio performance, etc.?

Thanks for reading!

You can expect the Onkyo to be alot easier to setup and use, but as for sound quality they will be comparable.

dont have any personal experience with the yammie but I have an onkyo 520 (basically the same as the 502 and very similar to the 503) and I'm very happy with it. It is in my room now but was for a few weeks there powering the setup in my living room consisting of tower speakers and pretty big center and surrounds. It did a nice job even with the larger speakers. I wouldn't think you could go wrong in your price range with the Onkyo.

I have a Yamaha RX-V557 and I'm very happy with it, it sounds good and I had no problem setting it up.

So, did you take my recommendation and go with the Onkyo?
