How good of a deal?
You should ask buckeyefan. He has those in his system. When he was driving them with his sony rec they didnt sound so good, but when he got his denon he said they came to life. I have used my Yammie to drive my XR16's and it did an ok job. Too bad that receiver doesnt have pre outs so you could use an external amp. If it is a great deal I'd say go for it, those are supposed to be some good sounding loudspeakers.

I have a chance at buying them for about 700Cad with an extended 5yr warranty. I don't have a big room. I do have an energy s10.2 as my sub. I am not going to use them as large. I would set my receiver to small.

edit: I know I kick myself in the butt about the 540 it's not bad but the 640 went on sale a week or two later and the sales rep gave me such a hard time about exchanging it I had to have every single plastic bag/clip and twist tie.
so I didn't danr.

They like the power. If you set them to small, then why bother with the dual 7" woofers. Even set to large, your receiver will not have enough guts to get them to put out any bass. You might as well get the RTi6's on stands IMO. I bought my two RTi10's as floor models for just under $350. One grill was damaged, and one speaker had a slight nick in it. Polk sold me a new grill for $20 and free s/h. Great company. I wouldn't have paid more because of how inefficient they are. They would definitely do well biamped though, if you had an additional two channel for the 4 woofers. With your receiver, I would be looking at speakers with at least a 93db rating.

I have a sub and right now I can't afford a new receiver and amp. But I will in the near future. So my question is if set to small will I have enough power ?

For normal listening, yes. For loud parties - no. You are still sending power to the dual 7" woofers, which take quite a bit of power from the receiver, even if it's above 80hz.

should I go for this deal then? would it be recommended to disconnect the 2 7in woofs? or just set to small? I can't have loud parties volume never goes up past -30 and thats on a DVD and that is loud.

Thanks Buckeye

You can't really disconnect the two 7" woofers. Not only would you destroy the speaker, but you'd screw-up the crossover and not get any response under 500Hz (which I beleive is what they do).

Therefor:

Do not buy the Rti10's until you get a receiver/integrated amp with enough power for them. They may seem "cheap" right now, but you'll actually be wasting your money if you can only properly power a large bookshelf speaker.

It wouldn't be wise to buy them now for future use ?

I can tell you really want to get them. Go ahead, why dont you pick up a used pre-amp and amp off of e-bay and use them for a 2 chan system. Later on you will still be able to buy a new pre/processor and use the amp with them. Or a receiver with pre outs. You could pick up an older phase linear, marantz, or adcom for around $200, and a decent pre amp for $150. With those speakers it would sound great.

It seems the best bet would be to buy the 8's with the receiver I have. Or save up !

In high quality audio it used to be, you bought a good piece of gear and kept it for a long time. Don't sell yourself short. I say, buy the best you can afford that way you aren't sorry later, and your not wasting money. I reached when I bought my MC speakers, and I didnt have enough to drive them, but I'm glad I got them.

I will not have enough $$ for a pre/ and amp so they would have to be hooked up to my yammaha for a while. How and what did you run your new speakers on when you bought your MCs

My vote would be to get the better speakers that you like the sound of, and to not worry if your receiver is a little underpowered. Just listen a little softer!

Seriously, better sound at a slightly lower volume is going to be more satisfying to you. Plus, speakers are a longer-term investment, since electronics get obsoleted quicker. In a year or two you will want a new receiver anyway!

It is also true that you will have plenty of power for 2-channel listening - the limitation will be for 5/6/7 channel listening. I think you will have reasonably good ability to blast tunes (2 channel) for a party, even if you can't shake the walls while watching a movie. Heck, in my college days I had a 60 wpc amp, driving a pair of Large Advents, which are pretty inefficient. It played plenty loud.

One more suggestion is to keep the impedance switch of your Yammie receiver set to the 8 ohm setting, regardless of your speakers' impedance. This allows higher power output on any individual channel before clipping. There is a little more chance of overheating when all channels are being driven, but avoiding clipping is more important.

I hooked them up and listened to them for a few years until i could afford an amp. they sounded better than what I had, but when I got an amp, they were awesome.
