Hi there,

I just bought a pair of V2.4i and got a quick question. I bought an SACD CD title "STOCKFISCH RECORDS - CLOSER TO THE MUSIC VOL.2". This CD is by the STOCKFISCH RECORD. The recording on this CD is awesome!! Very clear and detail.

Here is the problem, on track #11 (Four Wild Horses). In the beginning, there is the very first bass and follow by the second bass, the 2.4i did some buzzing or rattling on the very last bass driver. I am not sure if it rattles because the recording had too much bass or the driver was damaged and that causes it to buzz/rattle. I even try to listen to the same second bass of the song at low volume and still, the last bass driver rattle again but not as loud as my volume was quite high at first. Another thing I was also thinking the rattle may be a part of the recording and it suppose to make the rattling sound coming from the third bass driver.

Any of you ever hear from the V2.4i third bass driver rattle when listening to music with deep and powerful bass? Also, does anyone know what causes the driver to rattle like that? If you push in the speaker driver with your hand all the way in, can it damage the driver?

Thanks!!

No, its not normal, sounds like a faulty/blown driver. Should be a warranty repair or exchange it at your dealer if you just bought it.

Good luck

Thanks for your help!

I figured out what the problem was. When I was playing SACD music, the small rattling noise was coming out and at the same time, my Adcom GTP-880 (A/V Preamp) was blinking at the volume level meter. Every time when my drivers would make that rattling sound, again, the volume meter level would blink again. I just noticed that tonight. I could not figure out why it was doing that. I went through the user's manual for the Adcom GTP-880 and it said that if the input level for the Coax if too high, you need to adjust the level. So for all the electronics that uses the Coax such as a SACD player, I need to adjust that input level accordingly. Once I adjust it lower, everything was absolutely fantastic! The input level was on max (+10) and I adjusted it to (-6). It made a huge difference to the music. It did not sound distorted anymore. I am not sure if all Preamp are made that way when connecting an SACD player.

When I listen to regular CDs and not my SACD player, everything sounds great at any levels because my regular CD player is connected to the Preamp with an Optical cable. I am not sure why there is an input level adjustment for connecting an SACD player??

I just bought my SACD player and just beginning to learn more about the player. I think SACD sounds really good. I think it sounds much better than regular CD player. However, there are not much SACD discs available to purchase and very few titles out there. I think SACD discs are going away.

Thanks again for your help anyway!!

So for all the electronics that uses the Coax such as a SACD player
Just a note, if you have your SACD player hooked up via optical or coax, you are not getting proper SACD reproduction. For SACD to work properly, you need to use the multi-channel analog inputs or HDMI v.1.2 or newer. Optical or coax will not pass an SACD signal. It is possible that either you have a hybrid SACD disc or that the player is downmixing the signal to be sent via optical or coax. Anyway, you should connect your multi-channel analog cables to get proper SACD.

Davemcc - My SACD player does not have multi-channel analog cables. There player is for a channel hookup (LEFT and RIGHT). This SACD player does not have HDMI cable as well. My GTP-880 does have the five-channel multi-channel analog connection but not my SACD player. I prefer to listen to a 2 channel rather than a 5 channel setup. I never like listening to music with all 5 channels blasting at me. I only listen to a 5 channel setup when viewing movies.

Jacksmyname - Thanks for the links for more SACD options. I am having a difficult time finding more titles for my collection.

Thank you guys for your kindness!!

You should still use the Analog two channel aposed to the Coaxial Digital output. DSD does not stream over SPDIF Coaxial or Toslink. DSD is what SACD uses for high resolution uncompressed audio.

I am glad you found the problem was nothing serious.:)

Hello Seth=L,

I did by using the Analog 2-channel and it sounds fantastic!!

You are still not receiving the full range of your SACD's potential. Basically your listening to analog 2 channel and by your comments it's quite evident that your player has better analog output than its DAC's via SPDIF.

My 2 cents. Oh and by the way nice speakers!!:)
