Energy Take Classic 5.1 - What a Deal!

Hi:

After spending many years using an antique Technics stereo receiver and speakers I have finally purchased my first home theater equipment.

Got an Onkyo 705 at B&H Photo for $395 new.

Very happy with that.

For speakers, I have been watching the close out sale at my local Circuit City.

They had marked down the Energy Take Classic 5.1 system to $240 on Friday.

Yesterday I went back and they were still priced at $240.

I'm thinking "Great deal...go ahead and get them."

Got to the register and they rang up at $180.00 plus tax!

Best price I have seen so far is $499.00 online.

Just hooked them up this morning (speakers only no woofer).

Right now I have them all wired to the front.

Played Roxy Music Avalon and the Dixie Chicks Home CDs in PLII Music surround mode and they sound fantastic.

The PLII Music mode really adds a lot of depth.

Switched back and forth between that and Pure Audio and liked the surround format the best.

I also have a pair of Ascend Sierras on order.

In the short term, I probably will just run everything up front.

Energy Take Classic 5.1 -- Highly Recommended.

Only regret -- did not buy both sets of the Classics that were available!

Just a quick question. You say you have them all hooked up to the front? Does that mean you are using both the A and B speaker terminals or you have more then one speaker hooked to the terminals on the receiver? If that is the case you should be ok but you have to know that will cause the Ohm rating the receiver sees to have and can stress some of them. More than likely not going to stress your Onkyo too much though.
Also since you have all the speakers hooked up to the fronts PLII isn't going to sound better. PLII is a surround mix so you would actually need the speakers hooked up to the surround amps to hear what it is doing.

Glad you enjoy what you got, sounds like you got some good deals.

I misspoke.

I have them hooked up 5.1 but have them positioned all upfront.

I am in the process of doing some remodeling and was going to wait a while before I positioned them in a typical 5.1 arrangement.

ahender,

That's a CRAZY good price for a new 705. I just looked at B&H and none show up. Do you have a link to one at that price ?

Thanks

They must have sold out.

I see links to B&H for that model and price but it is showing "discontinued."
