I auditioned the Paradigm Cinema 90s this weekend, and definitely liked what I heard. However, they are at the top of my budget right now for 5 speakers, which isn't much.

I can get a great deal on the Energy Take 5.2's, and the package would cost about half what the Cinema 90s cost, but its a long drive to audition them and then not come home with them. More than willing to do the drive though if its worth hearing them.

Lastly, I can get a good deal on the Def Tech Pro Cinema 600s. I am not sure if I will be able to audition them, which I know is a big no-no. However, given that everyone here likes them so much, I'd be willing to go in that direction if someone can tell me that they are definitely better than the Energy or Paradigm.

So, if you had around $800 MAX to spend on speakers, which way would you go? Or is there a different package I should consider?

I haven't heard the Energys, out of the Paradigm and Def-Techs I'd probably go with the Paradigm. I didn't like their sub too much, Def-Tech's sub was nice. So maybe buy the Paradigms with a sub from HSU or SVS, people really seem to like those....

The Paradigms had better mid-range response, the Def-Techs seemed really thin when I heard them, clear but not full. If you can I would probably go up to a Cinema 110, since they give you an even better mid-range.

Hope that helps, let me know what you decide.

Paradigm

I love Paradigm speakers and actually got a great deal from users on eBay to purchase the Cinema v.90 speakers and a Cinema CT 10-inch subwoofer. I saw the other user did not like the Paradigm sub as much as DEF. Tech, but I love the instant and clear response of my Paradigm subwoofer as it always sounds EXCELLENT with music and movies and is just as good or better than any subwoofer up to 800 dollars that I have heard! Paradigm makes very clear and detailed sounding speakers from movies.
