Energy S8.2 sub phase

My Enerrgy S8.2 sub does not come with a phase switch. My Yamaha receiver does have a setting for Sub Phase with either Normal and Reversed but I don't notice any difference during playback toggling between either. Should this setting work and what does it mean that I don't notice a difference? I read that a sub out of phase would sound muted and you would notice the higher frequencies more and I just don't notice that.

Don't know how effective the avr is or not with its phase adjustment, but it may not be an audible difference flipping between the two polarity positions (which is really all a two-position phase adjustment is).
