Has anyone had the chance to listen to the Energy RC-LCRs and the RC-30s?
Is there any advantage to getting the RC-30s other than bass extension?
It seems the 30s are a bit less expensive but I don't want to lose any imaging advantages that a bookshelf is supposed to provide over a floorstander.

Still looking and trying:)

Well people have had the chance to listen to them... I have listened to them, and I have a bad answer for you.

Bookshelfs will loose Base not imaging.

and what do you think about the speakers? For that is what matters. Not what we have to say.

Energy is a respected brand. Like all speakers you will find some that like it, and some that dont.

Personally, I am a Brit lover... B&W and Thiel make me happy.

Thiel is actually a Lexington, Kentucky based company. I don't know if Jim Thiel started elsewhere or not, but I gotta let people know that great things other than race horses and bourbon come from Kentucky!

Not to thread hijack, back to the Energy's...

GreenJelly,
I understand that bookshelfs usually give better imaging, I believe I said that in the OP.
I was hoping someone could give me an idea how the RC 30s sound compared to the LCRs because I would have to drive 4 hours to hear them personally.
I am very limited in what I can listen to locally that is why I tried some of the internet direct vendors first.
It is so d**n frustrating for people like myself to hear "go listen to it yourself" when it is so far out of the way.

Sorry, I get so frustrated and sometimes I have to vent.

Thanks for listening,
Frank

Frank,

I HAVE heard the RC line, but it was quite some time ago, and I can't recall the sound exactly.

I remember them being fairly neutral, pretty dry (if you're into that sound). I can't comment on the bass response though, there was a subwoofer playing.

I'd go and listen right now if the store that had them still stood, but it is now a value village.

I can understand your frustration... but I am sorry that I dont have better answers... Every regular poster here has their favorite speakers... and they are almost all different. We stick with the good brands... Paradigm is the only one not liked too much, though some find them great...

NHT, PSB makes some amazing bookshelf speakers at REALLY reasonable prices, and I have not heard them mentioned in ages...

I love B&W but the 602 bookshelf is a bit big but amazing, and the 601 is not a whole speaker (lacks low mid-range)... Ive heard Energy beign tossed around. Axion is a common word around here... Boston Accustics and Polk, though they are stuck between mass production and niche. This can make a favorite for allot of people do to their availability and their quality. PSB makes GREAT bookshelfs.

Ive heard Energy, they are good to great... they just dont make my hair stick up on the back of my kneck like the B&W's. I can toss around any number of descriptive words, but it just doesnt come down to that.

I cant even possibly name the number of bookshelf speaker manufacturers in the business today. The RC's are VERY small speakers... They WILL be lacking lower mid range. A sub specifically designed for satalites can pick this up, but you will often end up with uneven sound, hotspots, and non-directional sound for allot of your experiances.

These small speakers are also put in the worst positions posible, only making them worst. I would encurage you too look at a bigger speaker, and look at options to help you live with them.

Thanks Guys,
Sorry for getting testy:( I would truly love to go and listen to all of the systems that are mentioned in these forums but like I said I can't.

I already have a pair of LCRs I am trying and so far they are very pleasing to my ears. They have the mids and highs that I liked about the Axioms I tried, plus they have an amazing amount of bass considering their size.

Like I said in the OP a dealer tells me that the RC30s are a much better speaker for less money and I had hoped that someone with both could verify this statement.

Thanks again
Frank

oops... sorry

as for what a dealer tells you... find out what he marks the speakers up, and if what he gets from it... if hes a good guy he will tell you the truth.

A good way to tell if a sales man has the guts to inform the customer, ask him about speaker cable. If he mentions the controversy over it, then hes honest and informative. If he recommends a $50+ speaker cable, and promises a world of difference, then I would not trust him to much.

Greenjelly,

You're not really answering any questions, just raising different, off topic questions. Try to stick to the OP, or don't post at all.

Frank,

Other then the extended bass response, I think the mids and highs should be the same (esp. the highs considering its the same tweeter). I would stick with what you have and save the money for a bigger TV or subwoofer.
