Energy RC-70 x 4 for HT 5.1 setup?

Well, I got me Energy 5.1 setup (front RC-70, RC-LCR, rear RC-10, VSW10 sub) to start. I'm still deciding on pre/pro and amp (perhaps AV7005 and Outlaw 7700 or NAD M25 or even Parasound A51) which would be a base for my (eventual) future speakers upgrade. I'm into music and DVD/BR concerts.

Would it make sense sq-wise to replace rear RC-10s with another pair of RC-70?
I read about having all surround speakers the same would be the best setup.

Any help is appreciated.

I'd even try to get one for the center speaker as well if that's possible :)

Not really. Surrounds aren't critical like fronts.

While I have nothing but high praise for the RC-70s (I have a set) I don't think they'd be needed or provide must benefit as a surround speaker for HT. Of course if money is no object, you regularly listen to multi channel music and have amps to drive them... sure, it would work. :)

I can honsetly say that I've had the same thoughts when I saw them on sale here but I didn't go through with it. On a side note, and depending on you tastes, you might want to consider a sub woofer upgrade before another set of rc-70s.

If you have money to burn, and room to mount them, there is no reason not to do that, but typically you want the surround mounted higher than the fronts, and that looks like it would be tricky with some tower speakers. There isn't that much of an advantage to be gained though, for sound performance.

Like AVnet said those RC70 sales are tempting but what are you going to do with so many big and heavy (relatively speaking) floor standers. No they would not do much for you in the surround positions except for people who have especially reasons to have large and good speakers all around. TLSGuy is one of those people if I remember correctly:D.

As for the electronics, you may be able to get a 4311 for the same price as the AV7005. People who switched from the AV7005+amp to the 4311 seem happy about their decisions. It has preouts and even preamp mode so you can still add a Halo amp if there is a real need for it. To me I would not go beyond a 3 channel amp, 2 is good enough, 3 okay, 5 or 7 is a total waste of money, time and energy for most applications but those who are addicted to MCH stereo, that to me is far from being natural.

That's surprising given his setups.
I thought he mentioned before that he listened to music that needed very good (probably mean as good or almost as good as the fronts) surround speakers and lots of power for the surround channels. It is distant memory so I could still be wrong.

Thank you all for the constructive responses.

RC-10s look kind of small and that got me worried a bit. I guess once I hear them I'll know better. But first I have to get me some electronics.

Re 4311, I like Denon, my current receiver is Denon (stereo, pushing pair of Arcam Alpha speakers). I have it for 20 years now with no issues whatsoever. I thought with separates I'd have more flexibility, especially in light of ever-changing technology.

Some bookshelf speakers give excellent sound, sure they are not towers but they hold their own in many environmets. I haven't listened to the RC-10 only some of their cousins and I liked their sound very much.

Even my RC-Mini sounds great with a subwoofer.

The idea came from reports by users (on other forums) who seemed happy after switching from AV7005 based separates. Someone had also said it's decent internal amps can serve as backup in the event of an external amp failure.

You may want to PM DPS about recommended dealers. I think he paid <$1,500 months ago so it may/should even go for less now that the 4312 is almost here.
