Emotiva XPA-5 Good? Bad? Maybe?

I am looking at the XPA-5 and was hoping some of you guys that already have one could chime in on what you think of it. I currently have an older Carver AV-505 that I would liquidate to make room for the XPA-5. The only real reason I would like to get one is that it is newer and it has a little more power...other than that I don't have a good reason...

Why Not

Emotiva gets a pretty good rep round here. I do know of a few users who have had issues with them but overall most folks are happy with them.If the amp is what you want I would suggest getting it.Peoples opinions are always different so if the XPA-5 is what you want go for it.....

I own an XPA-2. I'm very happy with it. It's a very solidly built piece of equipment for the money. I strongly recommend giving it a shot if it fits into the criteria for your next piece of audio gear.

All Emotiva amplifiers (any model) are the best value on the market, bar none.
Their performance ratio with their prices put them in a class of their own.
Nobody else can touch them, period! And the XPA-5 included.

Me, I'm still waiting for my XPA-3, the same than yours, less 2 channels.

No second thought here about this my friend. :)

I've seen a lot of Emotivas around on respondent's 'equipment lists'. They seem very popular but are they a 'performance/quality' boost over the normal receiver's amps?
Not a negative comment, just a simple query. What are the benefits they portrait (P.S. I'm a firm believer in 'seperates' - each component designed to do what it can - best) and how do they stack up against mainstream (read more commercialised) power amps?
At the price, I'm interested in 'booking' some myself. Would appreciate if anyone knows the design criteria and topology - the website is fairly sparse.

The sound is a full and robust as I’ve heard from any amplifier, definitely better than from a receiver. As for longevity, they do offer a 5 year warranty, and even though I’ve not had to use it, I hear their customer service is top notch, which in my view is as important as the item itself.

My IPS-1 has been excellent, and never given me any problems. I also had a great customer service experience with them, so they get two thumbs up from me.

I've owned about 7 different pieces of Emotiva gear, and every single one has been a top notch performer. I've also never had one issue with the equipment. I'm currently loving my XPA-3 and RPA-1 . I'm also awaiting the UMC-1 and then the XMC-1 processors :D.

How about a pro amp from Behringer or Yamaha that has way, way more power for less money?????

Holy smokes man, I just noticed the shipping weight of my XPA-5 is 88 lbs! That's heavier than I thought...Hopefully I'll have it in hand tomorrow.:)

I'm all ears.

lol lets not get started on that debate...
Why? You got a problem with that? Why do you frequent an audio forum in the first place? Don't you like to learn and discover the true value of some audio products?

You don't have to join if you're not interested, you're FREE to please as you wish.
But this should be quite interesting, so I'll recommend you to stick around for your own benefit and the benefits of others too, including myself.

I think that's with packaging. The actual net weight of the XPA-5 is 70 lbs.
Still not bad though for an $800 5-channel amp at 200 watts per channel.

But if you want heavy, about A McIntosh MC2KW at 437 lbs (1 channel only, 2,000 watts on three chassis amp). Only $30,000 each monoblock!

Or about an Edge Electronics NL Reference at 440 lbs (2-channel amp, 800 watts x 2). Price of admission is $125,000 each Stereo amp!

And finally, the Krell Master Reference at 677 lbs (monoblock 1 channel only with 1,000 watts into 8ohms & 2,000 watts into 4ohms). That will set you a cool $75,000 each!
Multiply that Krell by the new Audyssey DSX (Dynamic surround Expansion) in an 11.2-speaker system configuration, and you'll need eleven of these puppies, not including the two or more gigantic powered subwoofers to match that; and just for the power amps, you'll need a floor able to support 7,447 lbs or 4 tons with the stands! Total cost only for the amps: $825,000. PayPal please! I don't think so.

Did I heard someone murmuring "OUCH!"? ;) Better have a good solid rock foundation under the house.
