Does anyone know if this AMP which is rated at 200W per Ch. into 8 Ohms with all Five channels driving will be able to produce that 1KW (200W x 5) CONTINOUSLY? It is showing it only has a 1250VA Xformer?

Has anyone tested, or analyzed this AMP? PM me, or just post in this thread. Thanks.

Emotiva publishes their own measurements on the product page. Look for the PDFs with the Audio Precision test data.

I am still trying to make the lights on the front dance with no success. Just will not budge. There are multiple rows, but mine always stays on the first row. I guess that means it has plenty of power reserves.

The UPA-7, XPA-1 and XPA-2 have been reviewed favorably, so I do not think you need to have doubts about the XPA-5.

i am pretty darned sure that those lights do not move, as in, a meter.
i think the xpa-1 & 2 are only ones that do.

+1 only the 1 & 2 have dancing lights. Now if only there was a way to turn off the power button light.

The EMO amps benched so far have done well on the test bench.

Don't take this personal dude, but this made me laugh. "Why the hell aren't the meters moving?!?!" :D

^The problem I have with all the bench tests being that all channels are driven at once are as follows:

1.) Are these measurements for a Continuous Test - All Channels Driven Continuously at Full Power, but for what amount of TIME, if for a few hours that would be a good thing, but a minute or two not a good test?

2.) Also, was the load a simple 8 Ohms Resistive Load or a real true speaker Reactive Load with resistance, inductance and capacitance (R/L/C) -- that would make a huge difference when factoring the Power Factor difference, and therefore the total power output of each channel. Maybe, EMO's test gear from AP does all this... I just don't know.

ZeGhostbear -- I know that one, but thanks. Read my post above why I question specs, and more specs. Also, I don't know how EMO can get 1KW into 8 Ohms per Ch. with a 1250VA Xformer?

Sholling -- thanks I have read that one before. Are you pleased with the power out of your XPA's there? I am still waiting on the delivery of my XPA-5 here, and I am sure as you know there is a whole camp of A/V people that say ah, heck you don't need a separate AMP with a higher end Denon AVR!! One thing I do know is that when I crank up my Denon AVR with 5.1(.2) channels driven I can tell it starts to lug down, and have to crank up the Vol higher in db to get the same SPL (db) level as compared to Stereo Mode.

Based on the "dancing lights" of my XPA-2 they seem to loaf most of the time. And yes I'm quite pleased.

yeah, that would be nice. i would rather turn that one off, than the smaller ones.
I spoke with Emo a while back and they said they were afraid of "my amp died" calls from people that turn off the power light. Their suggest was tape something over it. A little stick on cover shaped to fit the button would be cool.

Sholling,

Just curious, how are you running those Emotivas? I'm guessing:

XPA-2 mains
XPA-3 center & surrounds

Did you run your Salks without an amp before (i.e. with just a receiver)? If so, how much difference did the amps make?

A little OT, but hopefully not too much of a derailment.

Well, that sure explains a lot

The front panel layout description in the manual does not describe the LEDs in detail, but the lack of a meter status selector switch on the back should have tipped me off.

Now I am even more glad I do not see the second row of LEDs light up, because those are the red fault indicators.

Don't take this personal dude, but this made me laugh. "Why the hell aren't the meters moving?!?!" :D
Hehe, glad to provide you with some entertainment ;)

Wow! Good thing you provided the link as I didn't know Gene did a write up on the ACD test. The article was so well written that not only the technical contents were accurate and Gene managed to present everything in such a way that even a non electrical engineer can understand the concepts. To understand the formula though, one does have to have basic knowlege in electrical circuit theory and trigonometry. A real fantastic read indeed. Too bad I cannot say the same about his write ups on the passive biamp and biwire.:D

yeah, i figured that was it. also, if it wasn't always lit up, some people would accidentally leave it on all the time. perhaps causing more warranty claims.

yeah, some kind of purpose made cover would be cool. my electrical tape is fugly.
