Im thinking about getting the Emotiva xpa-2 for my HT. my speakers need alot of power to drive them and this amp looks like it could do it. I have a denon 3808ci that I will use to run the other 3 speakers would this work ok or would the Emotiva over power the Denon. The Denon is rated at 140wpc or would it be better to get the xpa-5

I was also looking at the Yamaha pro audio p3500s 350wps but I dont have ballanced pre outs and I think the cost of the cables and a ballance box would be expensive

Thanks Tim

As long as you level match all your channels it will work fine. The cables aren't that expensive and you will probably still come out ahead going the pro amp route. I just ordered a few sets of XLR to RCA 6ft cables from cablestogo.com for $19 ea.

What about the pre outs on my denon not being ballanced

Matt was talking about RCA to XLR connections in the case of a pro-amp....this is a unbalanced (from you AVR) to balanced (to a pro amp) connection. Very few pro amps will have rca connections on the rear but there are some that do---none the less ordering, these cables is easy and relatively inexpensive as Matt pointed out...

So it is very possible to easily hook up a pro amp to your Denon with unbalanced pre-amp outputs. That aside, as long as you level match all your channels you will have no issues...Also your 3808ci is rated at 130 watts a channel not 140---thats the 4308ci....
