Emotiva UMC-1 and XMC-1

The XMC-1 sounds sweet except they've gotten rid of almost every legacy connection. I think the UMC-1 has the best ratio of inputs/outputs with respect to legacy connections, but the XMC-1 will probably measure and sound better. A UMC-1 with an extra HDMI connection would be perfect.

Just received an email from Emotiva asking me to confirm my desire to remain in the pre-order list. I replied and will remain on the list and will hear back from Emotiva in 48 hours. I am looking forward to a new adventure.

Emotiva pre-pros anticipated date of release!

Is there a set date for the release of the UMC-1?
And the XMC-1?

Not exactly an exact date but the announcement says all UMC-1 pre-orders should be shipped before the end of January. No official word on XMC-1.

The UMC-1 is now in a full production run, this is from Dan Laufman, President of Emotiva. They have sent out an email confirming peoples interests that were already on a pre-order list. It's believed that this is helping to guage how much of an initial production run will be needed to cover demand. I think everyone that was on the original pre-order list will be putting the UMC-1 through its paces before Christmas at the latest, again that's what I think and not a promise from Emotiva.

First UMC-1 units are projected to be shipped to customers in late November with all pre-orders filled by the end of January.

XMC-1 final specs are to be released within the next few days. In
April, Emotiva was saying the XMC-1 would ship about 2 months after the UMC-1. Personally I kind of doubt that about the XMC-1. I think for one their manufacturing capacity may well be at capacity for awhile pumping out UMC-1's. I also suppose it depends partially on how many differences there are between the two. Right now we know some but not all of the differences. If I had to guess, I would say mid-2010 for the XMC-1.

Thank you Harmon for the that precision. :)

Now that the Outlaw 997 has been cancelled

Hello everyone.

I too have made my decision to go Emotiva, since the wait for the Outlaw 997 was so long. Now that it has been cancelled, I am wandering if Emotiva will follow with the same reasons to scrap the XMC-1.

I read the reasons for cancellation from the Outlaw page. They seem like very good reasons to me. I have to imagine that the folks at Emotiva are looking at the technology landscape change with the same need to re-evaluate their design decisions. I know for myself, that I want to make sure the product is as future proof as possible, but not everything can be anticipated.

Perhaps 3d is just another gimmick that will not matter. Or perhaps it will become the next killer app. I for one do not want to spend allot of money only to have to trade out because I missed it. I hate it when that happens with my computers!

I am starting my home theater from scrap, so my investment will be significant.

I don't know that Emotiva will scrap the XMC, but I could see it being pushed back to add the 1.4 spec. Doesn't matter to me, since I picked up a UMC and figure 3D will take a while to take off and come down in price. By that time, I will be ready for another upgrade. Not sure I really care about 3D capability at this point, but who knows what the future holds?

Other processor that are dual voltage capable?

Hi,

I seek to upgrade my home theater but I have one constraint, moving from The USA to France in about a year.

Emotiva's UMC-1 is the only (?) model that officially claims that is it dual voltage capable (110V/60Hz-220V/50Hz). Other brands (processors or receivers) would only mention 110V/60Hz and would not answer the question on compatibility if I use just a step-down voltage converter.

Does any one of you have similar experience and can confirm the compatibility?

I would be considering an Integra, Denon or Pioneer Elite but refrain to due to their initial statement on 110V/60Hz only.

Thanks
