Emotiva Ultra-Lite Combo

Just saw this while checking out the other Emotiva 7 channel amp. Is this something that should be considered instead of just a receiver? I've never had a seperates system but everyone says the sound is much better with them than a normal receiver. From the descriptions it looks like a good setup.

Anyones thoughts...I know they aren't out yet but after seeing the review on the bigger amp theres gotta be something to it. The amp itself in the combo weighs 60+ pounds. Are there any other budget seperate combos out like this?

Looks like a 125Watt amp per ch. There are receivers with that ampount of power, no?

Spiffyfast,
Being an Emotiva owner, I can say that I truely believe the Emo ULs will be something very special. Mark is very good at delivering products that have a lot of bang for your dollar. While the Emo ULs don't have all the bells & whistles of the $1000 -$1500 receivers, they do have what most everyone will really need. When I took a look at some other pre/pros say the Rotel 1068 for example the Emo UL offers very similar hookup options.

mtrycrafts,
Don't confuse a 125Watt 63 LBS amp with a 30 LBS 120 watt receiver. I would take that amp hands down over any mid level receivers internal amp, Just my opinion.

petesgti,
As far as being better than a receiver it's hard to say. What kind of receiver are you talking about? Receivers will have some connections the EMO ULs simply won't, this may or may not be important to you. Mark @ AV123 is trying to concentrate on delivering excellent sound quality for this price range. However the EMO ULs also have some neat add ons that most people probably have not heard much about. One of them is you can get a fully HDCP compliant HDMI/DVI Gefen switch with the ULs for $99. There is also a second zone transceiver that will be available.
Here is a photo:

There was a get together in Dallas recently and the ULs were there and being tested for the first time. The hosts main system is a Pioneer Elite 55TXI with an ATI 2505 (250 watt x 5) amp. He shared some very honest comparisons and the EMO UL seemed pretty good to me from what I was reading. Keep in mind that receiver & amp combo would cost most people about 2.5 times what the EMO ULs cost.

I am looking at the Pioneer VSX-54tx or the Denon AVR3805. Connections are not that important to me. I most likely will just have a DVD player, sat or cable and a PS2. I prefer sound quality over features. The seperates seem to be more upgradeable, either through add-ons and updates or by getting a new pre/pro, as opposed to getting a whole new reciever. I would be willing to spend the extra money if the UL's are worth it. I am in the procees of building my system so I have not yet decided on speakers. I am looking at the axioms.

I have been eyeing the lites for a 5.1 setup in my bedroom. Over the last year, I have bought several HT and 2 channel audio systems for my house. I have bought high priced esoteric items for my main systems and quite a few products from AV123 for my seconday systems. IMO, almost every product at AV123 represents an incredible value and gives you top notch performance at its price point. I am already on the waiting list for about 4 of their future product releases just because I know that for the money I spend, their products always go far beyond my expectations.

You should consider buying your speakers at AV123 as well. If you get the lites and speakers, they will definitely give you a great deal. Once they know you are more than a one-off customer, they really give you some great prices.

I am not sure if I want to buy speakers without listening to them first. I was looking at the Paradigm Monitor 7's. I think that I am going with UL's so maybe I will get my speakers there too. I don't think that I will be unhappy with them because I do not have the golden ears that some do. Thank you all for the help and suggestions.
