Hey all, its been a while since I got been on the site. Im about to get 5000 tax return and want a sub. There are so many to decide from I dont know what to buy. I read the forums and just get more confused. Im thinking about maybe spending up to 1200. What do you all suggest. I saw that emotiva has the dual sub setup but have not heard of anyone talking about it. I think Im going to go with emotiva amp and processor soon so the extra emotiva sub amp is kind of a coolness factor. But I really just want something that will shake my neighbors walls. I grew up with huge bass in my car so what would you all get if you were me?

for 1200 bucks:

AV123 dual MFW-15 (1000 bucks + shipping)
eD A7-450 (1300 bucks, shipping included)
SVS PC13 Ultra (1399 bucks + shipping)

-the dual sealed from Emotiva won't actually be shaking your walls as compared to ported options because they are sealed.
-drop the axiom sub from your choices

Nobody's talking about Emotiva's subs because they haven't been released yet. I've heard them and I liked them a lot. But it's hard to suggest something that you can't go out and buy or read reviews about.

Why drop the Axiom?

An EP500V2 at 1,230$ is right ine the price range and seemed to get good reviews?

because I have it, and it's not worth the 1100+ i paid for it. (especially for HT)

I would also second Mike's choices, but if I were you (as you asked)
I would be the third to say yes to the eD sub.;)

You can still get an SVS PB12+2 in textured black for $1200 shipped but they are on clearance so you wouldn't want to wait too long.

That's simply not true. Sealed subs can be just as impactful as a ported sub. My 15" Rythmik sealed sub extends easily to 14hz and shakes the walls much more than my old 12" ported Ascendant Audio sub did.

I'm not saying that the 12" Emotiva subs will shake as well as a similar sized ported sub but making a blanket statement that ported subs always go lower than sealed is inaccurate.

So If I was to choose from the svs 12/2 or the dual subs from av123 what would be everyones choice? Also do the cylinder subs by svs sound good, like the 16-46 PC-Plus subwoofer? Does it compare to the first two I listed?

you answered what I was gonna answer. sealed 15 versus ported 12.

first you have to match the following:
driver size
low end EQ for the sealed?
port tuning

I believe you said you were looking for a sub that would shake the walls or something to that effect. The PB12 was described by an Audiohaulics review (still available on line) as an "earthquake in a box" and for a time was in the Audioholics recommendations for a $25,000 system. It is also the subject of many threads and several other published reviews. It is a well known and recommended commodity. However technology improves over time and other subwoofers may have eclipsed the PB12+2, particularly if you look at Craigsublist rankings. At $1200 I think it still may be the best bang for the buck. If you figure out the speaker diameter piston areas (pi r squared) the two 12" speakers come out with a piston area greater than a 15" speaker yet a little less than an 18" speaker. When I last looked an 18" subwoofer (such as Velodyne) is a lot more than $1200. I think the PB12+2 moves a lot of air and can pressurize a very large room. If there is a better bang for the buck out there I have to defer to the other forum members for a recommendation.

the quote you made (out of my quote) was out of context. I did say, the sealed emo's won't shake as much as the "ported options" and those are the subs I listed for the same amount of money. (1000+-USD)

and assuming driver xmax is the same, a ported 12 will pretty much shake harder than a sealed 12.

ok so now Im thinking I may only spend about 700. I was lookint at the eD A5 - 350 Subwoofer. Is it a good choice for that price range? My reason is I want to add a emotiva amp the Lpa1 to my harman kardon dpr 1005 to run my polk audio rti150 fronts and csi5 center and my polk in walls. Im thinking this will make my whole system sound better all the way around. Am I thinking right? I really like to crank it up loud. I know any sub is better than my 10 year old cerwin vega sub. (it sucks) lol I only have about 1200 total to spend so I figured this way I get a good sub and more watts so I can crank it up? Let me know if im thinking wrong here.

the A7S-450 (sealed) is around 700-800 bucks, and can outgun the ported A5-350. (sealed 18 vs. ported 15) ... plus it gives you flexibilty in EQ'ing to your taste: e.g. EQ'ing the low end for that 15hz extension ... or leaving as is and getting massive 30hz and above headroom.
