I am looking for a new pre/pro and have been intrigued by the Emotiva line. Seems like alot for the money. However, current models don't hdmi 1.3, the new line sometime mid 2008 will have. I've been thinking about waiting until then to let this HDMI thing settle a bit, or buying one of Emotiva's lower end units the LMC-1, or their receiver the DMR-1 to hold me over. They also have a 40% discount on new model processors if you have bought one in the past. This makes it silly to wait. If I plan on getting the new MMC-2 next year to use in my main system, should just stick with LMC-1 for now or move up to the better processor in the receiver? Anybody familiar with Emotiva and have any advice?

My current set-up is:
Denon 3803 as pre/pro
Toshiba HD-A2
Odyssey Mono Extremes - front l/r
Odyssey Ht-3 - center & rear surrounds
RBH 1044se - front
RBH 441se - center & surrounds
RBH 1010 sep - sub

I went through this same process about a month ago. I finally bought the DMR-1 receiver and I love the sound quality. I will probably keep the processor in my HT until next fall and then take advantage of the 40% upgrade to next generation. For me, I can use the receiver in another area of my home. If you are looking for a pure processor with HDMI passthrough, the MMC-1 is on sale this month for $699. That is $300 dollars less than the receiver for the same processor engine.

It's too bad they don't have thier new pre/pros out now, I would have seriously considered getting one to match my IPS-1. But I decided to go with the new Yamaha RX-V1800 since it has everything I need and I'm already familiar with setting it up. I really like the Emotiva line, and their customer service is also top notch, keep an eye on their website as they will be adding much more to their lineup next year.

That is interesting, I never really noticed it before. The MMC-1 is essentially the same as the DMC-1 without XLR outputs and the MMC adds HDMI switching internally. Seems to me if you don't need XLR outputs the MMC is a good route to go for a pre/pro. The DMR-1 doesn't have on-board HDMI, but it comes with the HSM-2 HDMI switcher which is controllable by the DMR-1 by use of the RS-232 port.:)

I'm buying a new MMC-2 as soon as I can. It will be a $1000.00 piece for non Emo customers. But at $600.00 it becomes a kick butt prepro, with 6 HDMI 1.3 in and 2 HDMI 1.3 out! And the features go on and on.

You might buy a LMC-1 like I've got to get into the "Family", Dan and Lonnie are great to work with. I REALLY like their gear.

Good Luck :)

Exactly what I'm going to do ;)

My two DVD players, Directv HD, and Apple TV are all HDMI, so I'll only have four cables going into my MMC-2 and 5.1 coming out via RCA to the amp and sub. I can't wait.

Thanks for all the replys. I called Emotiva and talked to them about the differences in their pre/pros and my problems with decision making.lol I like Gimpy Ric's idea and will likely buy the LMC-1/LPA-1 combo for now, then the MMC-2 when that comes out. With the 40% discount, it's actually cheaper to buy both the LMC-1 & the MMC-2, than it is to wait and just get the MMC-2 later! LMC-1=$379 & MMC-2=$600(with discount) is $979!! New MMC-2=$999
After I get the MMC-2, the LMC-1 will move to a second room & I'll need another amp. With the current sale, and the discount on the pre-amp/amp combo, figured I'd save another $100 or so by just getting both now. Then all I'll need is another speaker system, maybe a dvd player, new flat screen tv, cables, and probably some other cool things that come out next year! It's always something. A hobby that gets out of control!! I always really NEED something new!!:)
