In other words, how much louder would I perceive a 125w amp to be over an 85w? Much at all?

I say it would be insignificant even for most Fronts, and especially for the Center & Surrounds.

If you use subwoofers, set your speakers to small, & XO @ 80Hz, it would really be very insignificant.

I have an XPA-5 amp from Emotiva and the 1502 two channel amp from ATI and both of these are fantastic amps for me. The sound is very nice for music and movies.
