Emotiva LMC-1 Replacement

Although I love the simplicity and the sound that comes from this unit, the fact that it doesn't remember surround modes for each input is an annoyance I can't live with. Even a cheap receiver will do this. So I think the solution is to get a receiver that has at least 5.1 pre-outs, variable sub crossover setting, and is $400 and under. I also have no need for tons of DSP modes. I normally use Dolby, DTS (movies and music), and Bypass. I'm thinking Denon, Yamaha, and H/K are my best bets, but I'm willing to look across the board. I plan to use the Emotiva LPA-1 as an amp and I'm not sure which receivers in this price range has the better pre-amp generally. I've always felt the Denons had excellent DACs like the 1907 which sells for about $349, but I'd be curious what others have to say. And of course, if you feel I'm out of my mind for replacing the LMC-1 with a receiver, please feel free to stomp

Remember, as an Emotiva owner, you can buy ANY pre-pro they sell for 40% off. The new LMC-2 is going to be really nice from what Dan told me about it. It will have four HDMI 1.3 inputs for audio and video. Plus that great Emotiva sound.

If you can wait till December, the new ones will be available.

While I don't have Gimpy's insight into Emotiva's upcoming plans; I certainly wouldn't go jumping ship at this point.
That 40% is quite the incentive to stick with them.

If HDMI is not a factor, my first choice is Yamaha.
The RXV659 can be found for around $300 - $400.

Either way hold on to the EMO. at least long enough to see what the next generation has in store.

I'm thinking if I buy a receiver, later when I pick up an LMC-2, I can use the receiver in another room. I was thinking the Denon AVR-787. The only snag with this is the 12v trigger, but people have gotten it to work using an AC to 12VDC adapter from Radio Shack.

The 2307Ci has two 12v triggers, plus a bunch of other good stuff over the lower models.

Amp trigger

Many of the receivers in this price range don't have 12v triggers on the back so a workaround is needed.

I used an old cell phone power supply and soldered a 1/4" headphone type plug on the other end to allow my Yamaha receiver to trigger on the LPA-1 amp.

You should be able to find the newer Yamaha RX-V661 for about $400 and it includes HDMI audio and switching.

That pretty much what I have in mind. I assume that you plugged it into a switched outlet on your receiver. Does it turn the unit on and off without issue?

That is correct. I used receiver switched AC outlet -> 9V DC transformer w/ 3.5 mm jack -> LPA-1 amp. Works great, the amp switches on/off with the receiver.
