I recently got my Denon x3300w which have hooked up with Wharfedale Diamond 230's, 220 c, DFS and Emotiva Basx S10. I have the Audessy Setup. On manual side my front speakers are to set to "Large", LFE is set to LFE only. Crossover frequency is set at the default value of 120Hz. While playing music in Stereo or Multi Channel Stereo no sound appears to be coming from Sub. While the LFE + Main setting does send some sound through the Sub but is somewhat boomy. Am I missing something? Just to add another observation, the best Bass appears to come when I use the Pure Direct mode for music.

Set your speakers to small and lfe only under bass. The 3300 will send all of the bass frequencies to your sub below the crossover point, which you set under "crossovers".

Just a query : What type of Speakers is the "Large" setting meant for? Does it divert the Bass to main speakers only?

None unless you have true full range speakers and no sub. Don't think of it as size, but direction of the lfe and bass signals being sent to the sub. Small as @porge said sends it to the sub. Large + mains will send to both but most don't have mains capable of sub 30hz.

It's for full range speakers, of which there are very few true full range speakers. Setting them to small diverts all of the bass below the crossover point to the sub channel. The 120hz default under "bass" is the .1 in 5.1. Those settings only affect material that has .1 content like movies, blu ray concerts and sacd's. Almost all music is recorded in 2.0, with some exceptions like the ones I listed. Setting a crossover diverts the bass frequencies to the subwoofers below the crossover point.

Think of large as "do not use bass management for the speaker" and "small" as "use bass management for the speaker". Large and small just aren't great names for this functionality....
