eliminating crackling/buzzing sound on VCR playback

I have a new Insignia DVD-VCR Combo Recorder - Model IS-DVD100121 and it works fine EXCEPT for one very problematic thing:

Whenever I play a VHS tape on the VCR side of this thing, there is this loud static on the audio channel that does not go away. Play a tape, and this crackling buzzing can be clearly heard throughout playback.

I have two other VCR's and play the same exact tapes on those machines just fine.

Anyone ever had this? Any suggestions on how to correct?

Thanks much

No. But does it use the same audio cables from it as the DVD side? Maybe a cold joint in the cable? Or, a defective player.

Agree with Marty.

Try a cable switch and if that cures it, fine. If not, well, I hope you still have the box, all packing materials and the receipt. You're gonna need it.
