Elac and Andrew Jones unveiled the UB5 bookshelf speakers at CES Jan. 8th. This new speaker will be part of a line higher than the very popular Debut series. They look similar, but it's appearance where the similarities end. Taking notes from Mr. Jone's work with TAD it appears to employ a midrange with coaxial tweeter design which is known to help with time/phase coherence. The 5 - 1/4" woofer is in a separate chamber from the concentric mid/tweeter. Reports from people at CES said they where astounded with the amount of sound that came from these stand mount speakers, from openness to low bass performance, it seems like it may indeed have it all and for just $500.
