Anyone have any listening experience with these speakers. I'm looking at the Andra IIs or the Savoys.

I have never heard eggleston works but have seen some VERY positivie reviews. I know they are ultra high end speakers made in Memphis. I would like to go here them sometime, even though I could never afford them. Please let us know if you do audition them and your thoughts.

LOL. My 5 Ref. 4s haven't even come in yet. I'm sure I'll absolutely love them, but I feel compelled to look at something a bit more stratospheric in terms of price b/c of my newly revised HT front end (TACT TCS MKII, ADC6, BOZ 2166/2200 and Denon 5910). The Savoys are probably out of the picture b/c they require a very large space and, at $40K a pair, would be too expensive for a 7 matching speaker setup. The Andra IIs are more reasonable and would also be a better match for my space.

Hello
I had a chance to demo these at CES a couple year back They sounded very nice and their build quality is exceptional However for the same price as these I would rather have some Big Dunlavy's or Montana’s The Dunlavy SC-V III are among the finest I have ever heard I never understood why John stopped producing speakers He is a brilliant speaker designer anyone know?

Rich,

Have you thought about the upper end of Magnepan, Vandersteen, Vienna Acoustics, or Sonus Faber? I'm not sure how all of them would fare for HT, but I know they sound excellent for 2ch. Oh, and don't forget about the Linkwitz Orion. Although, they need 4 channels of amplification per speaker, so that may be in issue. But the bonus is, Linkwitz is based in California, so you might be able to arrange for a local Audition. Check them out:

The Magnepans are too power hungry for a digital amp HT setup. The Vienna Acoustics are more in the Ref. 4 price range and don't really appeal to me aesthetically. The Linkwitz and Vandersteen also don't really appeal to me, although the Linkwitz would be fun in conjunction with the TACt BOZ 216/2200. You could make room corrections for each individual driver and play with each crossover. I heard the Sonus Faber and very much liked their sound. I would use them for a 2 channel rig, but probably not for HT.

The Egglestons appeal to me b/c they use the same tweeter as the Merlin TSM-MXs. Aesthetically, they have the slightly industrial and solid look I prefer for my HT speakers.

Did you hear the Andra's or the Andra II's. The Dunlavy's seem like they were great, but they have been out of business since 2002, which puts them out of the runnning for me.

He sold his business to someone else who then shut it down a year later. I too think it was a shame - I love his speakers.

You might find this usenet thread interesting. I stumbled across it when doing some research on the probability of replacing blown drivers on used Dunlavy's.
