Easy Operable HT Receiver

Having numerous & daily new threads about "What receiver to buy?" I dread even posting this, but here it is...

From your experiences, what brands or model of HT Receiver is the simplest to operate? Under $500.

I am helping a good friends parents (a retired older couple) put a HT room together. Something simple but good. The room is 15'x18. I will be discussing with them a few options.

One option is a 5.1 speaker system with receiver. The speakers have not been chosen just yet, but will include 4 bookshelf's, center and sub. Maybe a Klipsch package or the HSU package. I'll be driving them around for a listen. My worry is that the receiver will be too complicated for them. I will do the initial set-up but I know the Mr is a tinkerer. I would like him to be able to easily do a basic setup without me being around. Something maybe with a mic setup. (Bose is not an option. I couldn't sleep at night).

I'm leaning toward one of the lower end Yamaha's. Unfortunately the Denon instruction manuals are just bad. Maybe a Pioneer 516 or 816? Maybe Marantz 3001?

Entry level receiver

Far,
The Yamaha RX-V661, Onkyo 605, or Pioneer 1016/1017 should work well in your budget. I have an entry level Yamaha and the setup is pretty intuitive. Like you sugested, the documentation and menus on Denon's are not the easiest. Make sure it has an auto setup mic to simplifiy setup. I think my Yamaha also has a password feature to prevent someone from screwing up the setup.

I would also check out the AV123 X-series and SVS 5.1 speaker packages.
