Early Christmas Present

So I am trying to get myself a christmas present before my girlfriend notices what I'm doing . So the thing I need most is a new sub. Mine is a muddy mess. Anything would be better then the one I got. Actually to be honest, I don't even use mine because I think my system sound much, much better without it. For speakers I run Klipsch, RF-62's for the FL and FR, a RC-52 for the center channel, and RS-52's for the surrounds. I only have a 5.1 setup as you can tell. I would like the sub to respond with these speakers. I know absolutely nothing about HT subs. I hear many good things about the SVS subs. But i can get a incredible discount on Klipsch Sub-10 and Sub-12's. Everyone here knows that the Klipsch Synergy line sucks, but how good are the speakers. To me the most important thing of a sub would probably be the the cleanness, a nice crisp sound because I'm so used to the crappy mess I used to use. What would be the difference between a down firing sub, and a forward firing sub. If anyone has any recommendations PLEASE HELP me:). I am still very new to this and any help is good help.

My budget would be around 500$ give or take depending on if it's really worth the extra money.

if you can up you budget, the mfw-15 by av123 would be an excellent investment. BTW whats your room size?

I purchased a Klipsch sub 12. It stayed in my house for 2 days before I returned it. My review of it was "cute".

Save the money you need to get the right sub and be done with it.

I have herd that the Sub-10 is better then the Sub-12 also, but regardless I'm sure they aren't that far apart.

My listening room is about 11' wide x 13' deep, but the back is open to another larger room if that matters. It also has wood flooring, and the walls have wood on the lower half if that has anything to do with it.

Like I said before I don't mind breaking my budget that much, especialy since such good deals are soon to be had with black friday/cyber monday.

You have to measure the volume of the entire open space when choosing a sub, not just the listening area. I'm using an SVS PB12-Plus in a room about the size of your listening area. I think this would easily handle a space 2-3 times that size, if that means anything. I have the sub turned down so much, I'm hardly using it's capability at all in this space.

The entire open space is just a little more then twice the listening space.

I attached a very rough sketch of what the room is like.

I have the Klipsch Sub-10 and I think it is a great sub. With the deal on it I had to buy it. My room dimensions and 5.1 setup is nearly identical to yours. I woul d consider the sub-10 if you can get a good deal. I am not sure why Klipsch subs are not highly thought of here. I can imagine others are better but they are not the worst by any stretch.

Skip the Klipsch. You'd be way better off with an SVS PB-10 or SVS PCi 25-31.

I have a 10" Klipsch and it's now a doorstop.

The Dayton Reference series kits on Parts Express are great options also. With an f3 in the 25hz range you can get stellar overall response in-room.

The SVS options are great as well.
