Dynaudio rear port noise problems anyone? (need help ASAP)

there is a rattling/vibrating sound comming out or the rear bass ports of a pair of dynaudio 52's that i have on audition from the store.

it happens on most bass heavy dance music played at only moderately loud volumes. it is quite noticable from the listening possition.

its not that there is anything loose inside, its the air comming out that makes the noise, like its comming out in chunks.

it is more noticable in one speaker than in the other.

is this a defect in this pair, possibly caused by them not being broken in or someone having played them too loud before they were broken in? i need to make a purchase decision by tomorrow and would like to know if any other dynaudio owners have experienced this. appart from this problem the speakers are extremely impressive with my NAD 352(after owning B&W 602 s3's which are also a good speaker in my book)

thanks for any help

I wouldn't buy speakers with port chuffing that obvious and loud. Take em back to the dealer and see if you can recreate the problem there, also try out another pair to see if they do the same. Seriously you are the second post I've read today with the same thing from the same speaker, so it's not an isolated incident. Like I said I wouldn't buy them, what are you going to do , just shell out the cash to be dissatisfied everytime there is bass in a track?

I agree. Take them back and try another pair.

Takeereasy, i think that other post you mention was one of mine aswell. i thought i'd do another tread dedicated to this problem cause i was needing some feedback on this asap.

i'll speak to the shop tomorrow and play the speakers there and see what they say and report back. i dont want to create any false impressions that might turn anyone off what appears to be a beutifull speaker.

thanks

First, I'd try a couple of things. 1) Move the speaker away from the wall. Recommendations are at least 12" back, but in your case, I'd move them 2' min, preferrably 3' away. 2) Use the foam port plugs. If they didnt give them to you, try to use something else, like stuffing an old sock in there. 3) Lastly, warm them up a little before you start playing them at 'moderate' levels. If they're still giving you trouble with port noise, you're probably right on the assumption that somebody before you went overboard with the volume knob before they were properly broken in. Especially with Dynaudio's, it's hard to push them to the edge, they love the juice. And since you are auditioning, I highly recommend you get a fully broken in pair. Out of the box they sound a little forward and bright. They need lots of hours before they start to sound their best. After that, it's all sweetness! Good luck on your audition. Peace_
