Got my speaker selection narrowed down the the above...

Went to the local Dynaudio dealer and had a listen to the Countour 1.4 as that's the only speaker in the contour range they had and really liked them.

Setup would be -

Countour 3.4 Mains
Countour SC Center
Countour SR surrounds

The dealer reckoned there was no point in going up to the confidence series unless I was running "a $15k electronics stack" as I had considered a pair of confidence C1's as mains. Was also some discussion on cable differences (Cardas Vs Nordst), which as an engineer I've a hard time buying into as long as the conductor is appropriately sized for the length of the run.

They where also pretty down on my amplifier, an Emotiva XPR-5 which I just ordered and will arrive on Monday.

Focal setup would be :
Chorus 836W Mains
Chorus CC 800W Center
Chorus 807W / 806W Surrounds

Anyone compared the Dynaudio's to the Focals ?

Given the price differential I could probably go 7.x with some focal SR800V's rather than 5.x.

Sub will be added once I get to know my new neighbors better :)

I really like the sound of both my Focal 826V & Dynaudio X32. They both sound very clear and clean, the soundstage seems wide, and imaging seems precise. I don't know which I would favor. :D

But I would look at these Focal Electra 1027S. Retail was $5500. They are asking $3300. Call them and offer $3000 delivered. I recently bought a pair of TAD 2201, which is listed as $1900. But I called them and offered $1700 delivered. They sold them to me for $1691 delivered. :D

FOCAL ELECTRA 1027 S TOWER SPEAKERS (PR) at Music Direct

I would also get 2 pairs of the Electra 1007S for Front Center, Rear Center, & Surrounds (6.1 setup).

MSRP is $3500, asking $2000, would offer them $1700/pr if buying 2 pairs. Big discount for buying a lot, right? :D

So I would offer a total of $6400 delivered (MSRP $12500). :D

So, you already had your mind made up to begin with?
Sort of - I really liked the Dyn's, although the Focals I was able to listen to (1038 Be's) were were pretty stunning as well. I'm sure I'd have been happy with the Chorus setup.

Was just looking for a read on if the extra cash outlay really bought that much extra quality. As it turns out I was able to negotiate with the dealer a price I was happy enough to pay, and the dyn's were higher on the WAF scale with their clean modern design.

Was one of those "OMG I'm about to write a large check" am I completely nuts moments - though maybe not everyone gets as freaked out about spending cash as I do :D
