I have searched for a good replacement woofer for my Cerwin Vega Dx9's. The closest I have found is a speaker make to replace Klipsch woofers in legacy speakers.
Anyone know of a better match ?

Welcome to AH,

The only replacement woofer for your Cerwin Vega DR9's would be an identical one. You cannot substitute another driver for it as it will not have the same exact specs. In addition, if you used another woofer which is completely different from what is the enclosures, the crossovers would also not be compatible with it. As a matter of fact, crossover components have to match the Thiele/Small parameters of each driver.

If you can't find an exact replacement, then you have no choice but to look for a new pair of speakers.

Did you contact Cerwin Vega to see if they still offer original driver replacement? They'd also be the ones to advise what might be a good match if not....

Are your woofers blown, missing, or just need new foam? Refoam kits are readily available for CV speakers.

Do you mean cerwin Vega D-9? I cant find any info on a "DR9"

My bad DX9, thanks for your response, they need completely re- foamed I am debating doing it but I don't know for sure everything is good with them, I repaired one of the tweeters that had the horn cracked. , I build speakers, and crossovers for fun, I was hoping to find something that fit the crossover ranges and sensitivity for these.

https://www.simplyspeakers.com/ has a good selection of refoam kits and videos on how to use them. They have just the foam surrounds for the 15" woofers or you can get a complete kit which includes dust cap, voice coil and surround.

May be the best option, my temptation to play with them is overwhelming, even tempted to use 4 8 ohm 6 inch drivers wired to 4 ohms , just to see but your right in this being the sensible thing to do . These things are perfect otherwise, and get this , someone threw them out.

The foam used in a refoam kit has to have the exact same compliance as the original foam surround. Otherwise, the woofer will not perform adequately since the newly acquired Thiele/Small parameters will differ from those of the original driver.

They have been selling replacement foam surrounds for many years and are the reseller I'm most familiar with. Located in St Petersburg Fla. I checked Santon Sound in Canada and Parts-Express but they only list the 12" kits, not the 15".

A lot of good speakers have gotten thrown out for foam rot.

What driver was it particularly?

I also looked at it on Amazon and see others using these for the DX9. Looking forward to hear these, but going to add some bracing to these massive cabinets, and not loose (much) volume. I will move them around to my various systems to see where I like them.
