I would like to extract a recording from my Directv DVR so I can put it on my website. How can this be done? How about the usb port? I am not a techee, but it seems that this should be doable. Detailed info would be great. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is not possible to do digitally because of DRM issues.

You would have to record from the analog outputs in real time to a DVD recorder, if you can still find one, failing that an old VCR.

Not 100% true, While you can not just take the hard drive out and copy the files - they are encrypted, locked to your DVR, if you have firewire port on your DVR you should be able to capture realtime digital stream from the box, given the show itself wasn't flagged with 5C flag.

(doesn't have to be mac, pc can capture firewire as well)

If this doesn't work you still could capture HD signal, but you'll have to use HD component capture device like this one:

Keeping in mind, of course, that reposting a broadcast event most likely breaks copyright laws and if you put it on your website, or YouTube, it could lead to your site being taken down, or the video removed from YouTube.
