so looks like I need to conver from DVI out on cable box to HDMI into the monitor.

1) is there any loss in video quality?

2) the HDMI cable I got is from DVIGear best to stick with the cable Mfg.
or any other suggestions?

I think places like Blue Jeans Cables makes cables with DVI on one end and HDMI on the other....and at a pretty reasonable price. Since it's a digital connection, any quality cable should suffice.....no need to stay with one manufacturer or pay extra for the high price spread. You probably could get an adapter for your existing cable.....I just hate adapters.

Adapters take up extra room, sometimes impeding other I/O 's. And yes, there is a loss of signal for every connection.

Bobby I purchased a DVI-HDMI cable from http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/DVI-hdmi_cables.html

Their is no loss of anything. There is no converting going on.
DVI cables don't transport audio, HDMI cable's do.
Sooo you'll need to hookup rca cables for audio.
I use the cable for connecting a ScienticAtlanta HD stb to a SONY 34XBR910.
And yes. The picture quality was a better then componet cableing.
Nice quality built cable. Available in 3 foot length.

Where's Mtrycraft when he's needed?
