I've been reading through the threads and couldn't find anything on this. For a DVI to DVI cable does any equipment benifit from dual link? Any guesses about the future?

For home theater use you want single link. Using dual link cables won't make a difference when used on single link equipment so just buy whatever is cheaper. The only consumer products that support dual link DVI that I know of are the Dell and Apple 30" computer monitors which both support resolutions up to 2560x1600.

Thanks: I've been reading a bit since I posted. It seems to me that DVI-I is the most universal, so if I buy DVI-I single link do you think I'll have covered in almost all situations. I'm thinking about computer and home theatre applications.

Why wouldn't you do HDMI with a DVI adapter head on it? Atleast that way if you switch to something HDMI later you won't have to pull a new cable. An HDMI cable with an adapter shouldn't be too much more expensive and will work better for longer runs. Also a heck of alot easier to pull and fish down walls.

I bought an 8 foot dvi-d dual link from monoprice.com for like $14 and it works great!

I didn't need a dual link, even though my set will accept a 1920x1080 signal, but I wanted it.
