Provided that you use a thick, low-loss cable, there should be no problem.

DVI gear is one company that makes mega cables, but they also come with a mega price tag.

I had zero success with a high quality Blue Jeans 50 foot HDMI cable between my Panny AE900u and my Denon 3910 player and had to send it back. For those lengths, you may need to go to more esoteric solutions such as optical HDMI cables or baluns using Cat 5 cable to get an HDCP handshake and a god enough quality video signal. YMMV.

50' gets into that strange area where generic cables may not cut it, even at 720p/1080i... For 1080p at those lengths you'll need a cable with EQ (electronics) to restabilize the signal at the receiving end (which DVIGear is about to offer as being included in the cable price). There are some cool products coming to market...

And as always fiber cables have no problem doing 1080p (and more) at these lengths - but they will cost you your firstborn child...

Fiber solutions seem to finally be descending from the stratosphere-I have managed to find at least two companies that make 15m (~50 feet) fiber HDMI interconnects for less than $500 (one is less than $400). It's still more than copper (22 ga HDMI is in the $250 range for this length), but the gap is narrowing, and one can exceed the 50 foot length without worrying about line loss.
