Talked to a guy from DVDO as I am buying the iscan this week in hopes of getting better picture quality. He told me that if I run a DVD player through it I am better off sending it a 480i signal rather then a 480p signal, because DVD's are recording in 480i and I am better off having the DVDO do all the upconverting itself.

did everyone alreay know this?

Yep.....Which model iscan did you decide to try? I hope it gives you what you're looking for, but I have doubts that you'll see the kind of improvement you desire. The de-interlacer in your TV (Panasonic plasma IIRC) is probably pretty good as it is, so just running an S-video cable from a decent DVD player in interlaced mode is going to be almost the same.......or not :) Be interesting to see if you like the results....good luck.

Either the iscan HD or HD+. I am hoping that it will at least allow me to input the native resolution to tthe tv. I am also hoping the dvdo will help eliminated the "motion blur".

what would make the best DVD picture quality? a denon 2910 straight to the tv, or a regular denon 800 (480i) through the DVDO then to the TV?

The only thing I know about the iscan units is from user feedback on a few sites......and it seems mixed from major difference to zero improvement. My 42" HD (1024X768) display converts all incoming signals to its native rate of 770p (not 720 and I have no idea why...just it's scaler circuitry) I have the older Denon 2900 and tried it S-video interlaced; component interlaced and component progressive. The latter was noticeably the best PQ. My HD cable box offers 720p or 1080i modes over its DVI output and I found the 1080i gave me the best picture (letting the TV scale to its native rate)...you'd think it'd be the other way around. 720p being closer to the native rate. You may find that the iscan gives the best results NOT scaling to the native rate too.

I'm assuming that the DVDO people will let you return the unit if it doesn't meet your expectations.....for that kind of $$$, I'd hope so. I really doubt that it's going to improve the areas (black level, etc) that seem to disappoint you. ISF calibration might help, but the present technology just doesn't seem to be as advanced (contrast, black levels, etc) as the good old CRT. I sincerely wish you luck with your efforts and would be interested if they succeed.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. But I think the "Motion Blur" you are refering to is common with Plasma TVs. The displays do not react as fast as CRT based tvs. So I don't really think a good line doubler will give you the results you are looking for.
