DVD: Worst Picture Quality?

Which DVD do you think has the worst picture quality? For me, the worst I have ever seen is "Unforgiven". The colors looked terrible, and I thought everything looked way too dark. My DVD is an older copy, so I would be interested to know if the newer versions have improved.

Any thoughts?

The absolute worst picture I have ever seen on a DVD is Days Of Thunder, but it may just have been the copy I rented. But it sure was down right awful, and almost unwatchable.

About time. I got through about 15min of the DVD(Region 1 version), I would love to watch it but I just can't live with such a poor picture. So for me this is good news(hopefully they do a good job of it this time)

cheers:)

Event Horizon: Special Collector's Edition

Old remakes of Disney movies (I'm sure some of you have kids). Bambi - I can't believe Disney didn't do a better job remastering that flick. Same with most of the older ones. With todays technology, it's pathetic.

The Sound of Music is pretty horrible - one of the greatest musicals ever.

BTW, Buckeyes won even though they sustained a black eye today.

The worst DVD picture quality/transfer I have seen is SOMEWHERE IN TIME. I love the movie, but it is like watching the film projected onto a patch of sand during mid-day.

I always thought The Wizzard of Oz was pretty bad, and now that I saw the new restored version, the old one looks even worse.

Tried to watch Lethal Weapon 2 last weekend.. definitely an old favorite but was worse than watching online porn movies

Aside from those $4.99 old movie transfers done by one-armed lebonese grade school students (not that there's anything wrong with that) I'd have to say Tombstone Vista Series for having the worst edge enhancement I've ever seen and then calling it a "Vista Series" like it's something to be proud of.

Add Pale Rider to the list of close to unwatchable picture quality DVDs.

Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire, I'm still pissed that a brand new "blockbuster" type movie was made that poorly

I thought March of the Penguins was very poor quality. Pixelated on my plasma. I do understand that the cameras used in -40 degree weather may not be as good.:)

Johnny: Could this be macroblocking with the 2910, for which the Faroudja chip is notorious (on some displays)? Has the pixelization occurred on any other dvd's? I'm wondering because I had no pixelization with my copy of March, not that it was remotely up to the standard of Gladiator. Just curious, because it was this very issue that steered me toward the 2900. Cheers.

My friend had the same thing on his system. It was a burned copy if that matters. I have since noticed that some pixelation happens on many movies in 1080i. No pixelation on 720p or 408p. I think some movies just don't like being upconverted.

And I think Pixelation is more from my plasma than my DVD player. On my old tube TV I never noticed pixelation on anything.

As for the Denon 2900 vs. 2910, i won't fall into that debate. The 2910 is an awesome unit and I won't be steered otherwise. I know nothing about the 2900, but just a hunch, and I may be wrong, i bet it doesn't do 1080i, which is the only time you see the odd pixelation.

Region 2 event horizon is really good, much better than the region one.
In my mind Highlander, region 1 and region 2 have really poor picture transfers, also Music Box - fabulous film but lousy transfer.
