I'm in the market for a DVD/VHS combo player and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a model for me. Costco sells the Panasonic 4743 and Sanyo 2700 but for $50 more I can get into a Sony from a local electronics store.
I tried looking for reviews on the internet but found it hard to find any so that's why I'm posting this question to the experts out there.
If they are similiar for specs does a certain brand stand out as better for sound and picture than the others?

I work at an locally based electronics store and have extensive use with dvd combi players both in the store and in the customers house. I have installed several brands including philips, jvc, zenith, and panasonic. I would say that JVC and Panasonic would be the easiest to use and are very comparable in performance.

I would suggest however that unless you are crammped for space not to buy a combo-player. If for some reason the dvd player stops working or the vcr eats a tape you have to do without both units while being repaired. Buying each unit individually allows you to be more specific about features and you will find that it doesn't cost much more than buying a combo unit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. It is a space problem I'm having with the new 36" Sony Wega because the stand only hold two AV components.
