I recently aquired a Cambridge Audio DVD89 and want to know if the DVD upconversion on the HD-A2 is better than the DVD89. I haven't had a chance to A/B them, but my intitial viewing of the DVD89 left me feeling the HD-A2 is better. During the early part of Master and Commander the fog scene is pixelated on the DVD89 and I don't remember it as such on the HD-A2. Any thoughts? Does one have a better video chipset than the other?

They are probably pretty similar. The 89 is based on an Oppo, but which model will determine whether it had beter processing. I believe the 89 was based on the 971. I had an A2 and the upscaling on it was very good, too bad it was such a slow and relatively noisy player. Between my Oppo 980, PS3 and the A2, the upscaling on each of them was pretty similar.

In the fog, I notice that grainyness on most players; I believe it may actually be in the video itself because it is also on the Blu-ray version (which is not a huge step up from the upscaled SD DVD).
