DVD dialogue low and muffled on 5.1 sound only

Here it is Christmas Eve and I am setting up a Samsung HT-BD1200 Blu-ray home theater system for my not-so-technically-inclined girlfriend (she's away as I am trying to surprise her) which I bought off of some guy from Craigslist. All initially appeared to be working until I put in a 5.1 digital DVD (blu-ray). All sounds great EXCEPT the dialogue. It is very, very low and muffled while all other sounds come out as should -- loud and booming. When I put in a non-5.1 DVD it plays as should.

I went into the settings, which are very, very minimal and altered (just to check) every setting. I am no audio moron but hoping that I am missing something either obvious or not-so-obvious which someone else might catch.

If you have ANY ideas please help a brother out this Christmas. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the center speaker isn't working. Check the connections and try swapping with another speaker.

Solved!

Well that was quick! Turns out the center speaker did not have a properly stripped black wire. The clear shielding was still wrapped around it so it APPEARED like there was no issue. Anyway, stripped the cable and full dialogue was heard with utter clarity. Thank you for the quick response and great tip HiHo. What a relief! Wheeeeew.

I think its has to do with the center speaker. I agree with Hi Ho

Yep, that clear stuff is a killer.
I had that happen with the center wire on coax cable that had a clear film on it and didn't strip away. Bummer.
