DVD audio to CD

I have a number of concerts on DVD and i was wondering if there was a way to take the audio off of them and burn it to a CD still in 5.1 Surround sound so i can play it in my car (with it's fancy schmancy sound system)

That would be a negatory. CDs are 2-channel only.

MAY be capable to play SACDs or DVD-Audio DVDs. More likely than not, you have a faceplace that uses a DVD navagation system (correct me if I'm wrong), and it uses that capability to play supposed 5.1 surround.

Do you have a Acura TL? The new ones do have 5.1 sound systems in them and play DVD-A discs. I'm reading the brochure as I type this.

Just because sound comes out of all the speakers does not mean it is 5.1. If your player does not state that it plays DD/DTS/DVD-A, then you are not getting true discrete multichannel sound.

I asked that question before. Do stereo automotive head units use some kind of Pro Logic type decoding to create the rear speaker image? I got no definitive answer. One person said yes, but had nothing to substantiate.

I checked out Volvo's site, they use Dolby Pro Logic II. So yeah, it's just emulated surround sound that uses 2 channel as the source.

Acura advertises the TL has a 5.1/DVD-A system. It's a discrete 5.1 sound system. I would imagine this will be the new direction for many higher end auto sound systems.

500 times higher??? I guess we have been missing out with our HT systems.

I'll ask a similar question: Could you extract the 2-ch audio from a DVD-A and burn a CD with that. I have a few SACDs and DVD-As that I would like to play in my car (at a reduced resolution, of course).

There's no way I know for SACD, however if the discs are hybrids, you can burn the CD layer. I do this all the time, because I don't want to carry around my expensive SACDs. You are not getting the resolution of the SACD layer though.

Not sure about DVD-A, though once it's analog, you should be able to record it with the right gear (same with SACD) Though again, you are not going to pick up the resolution; you are limited to whatever you're recording device is capable of.

it does have a DD logo, if that means anything, also
i got the CD, "Dave Matthews Band, The Central Park Concert" which said it was surround sound, is a a SACD, i cant tell
