I have noticed that in the last 6 months every DVD that I have purchased sounds flat. What I am saying is that I can put in a older DVD such as War of the Worlds, Kingdom of Heaven, or Matrix and they sound great. The newer DVD's I have purchased recently like Speed racer, Rambo, and Iron Man all sound flat and don't have the sound quality of the older ones. I am just wondering if anyone else has noticed this in the recent selection of DVDs? Any info at all would be great. I am just wondering if its being done on purpose to force people into buying Blue ray for better audio or if I am just losing it.

Thanks,
Chappy

They probably just aren't spending as much time and money on the SD DVD versions any longer because they are working on the Blu-ray tracks instead. Most likely the SD DVD tracks are even just downmixed from the higher resolution versions. I haven't bought a SD DVD in almost a year, so I can't comment on the change in sound quality.

I thought it was just me. I have noticed the same thing. Most of the recent DVD's I've purchased don't sound good at all. I can't even remember the last time I found a SD DVD that had DTS audio on it. Well, Aliens vs Predator 2 had a DTS mix, but that isn't saying much. When I do much the jump to Blu (hello Panasonic DMP-BD55K) , this so called "Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master blah blah" better be good (I'm sure it will be but I'm down playing it so I will be pleasantly surprised:D) It does suck though that they are not putting any effort into SD DVD, at least I don't think they are.

I just got Iron Man today and it sounds OK but I agree I can't say it's the same as DVDs from two or three years ago even.
