Im trying to understand this DVD-A (and similar types). If your reciever has a coaxial imput from a cd player, do you still need a buy a DVD-A (or similar) component. Is it that the DVD-A must output the signal for the Receiver to understand and decode it?

And why is "Bass management" such an issue?

I just purchased the Denon 2805

thanks

DVD-A and SACD, at this time, must be decodecd in the player, not the receiver. It's a legal thing with the record companies to do with illegal copying and that kinda stuff.

So, this means that for SACD and DVD-Audio, you need to use the decoder in the player, take those 6 analog outputs , and feed all six of them into the Denon's multi channel analog inputs.

As far as videos, to get the multi-channel input you and use the usual single digital (75 ohm) coax or toslink and let the receiver do the decoding. Or, if you choose or the decoder inthe pklayer is better, you can let the player do it and feed it to the Denon via the 6 analog connections mentioned earlier.

Redbook CD's can be fed to the Denon either vis the red/white analog connections, perhaps via some of the six analog connections (check your manuals for this) or you can let the Denon's decoders handle this by usinfg the same connection you use for videos.
