I have seen this problem mentioned once in the print medium. I picked up David Sanborn's new dvd-a , "timeagain" placed it in my Pioneer 536a universal player and could not access the Advanced Resolution Surround Sound programming. The onscreen audio readout indicated the playing of said format but no audio. It will play the stereo programming as well as the Dolby Digital Surround programming. I have done basic troubleshooting. Cabeling, menu setup , all appear correct. Other dvd-a's play properly. Does anyone have information on this problem. I hate to think of what I considered a breakthrough product to be obsolete already.

Are you using a 5.1 setup? Before I had a subwoofer hooked up, my Yamaha 2300 would not play the surround mix on some Warner DVD-A's. I told the player I had a subwoofer and they played fine.

is a great unit, but fails to play some of the newer DVD-Audio discs mastered with a different software program. You should take it back and get the 578A, which has corrected the problem, or call Pioneer for instructions on what to do with your unit to correct the problem free of charge.
