DVD-A on my Marantz SR4600

I have a DVD-A player with 5.1 analog connections to the 7.1 analog on my SR4600 receiver. When I am playing DVD-Audio I am supposed to push the 7.1 button on the front, but when I do, all I get is 2 channel stereo. Of course when I use the digital input, I get full DD surround. However, I would like to see how the DVD-A tracks sound. What am I doing wrong?

BTW: I also get only 2 channel stereo when I select DTS for movies. The only setting that seems to work for full surround seems to be DD. I have the receiver set to Auto.

Hi totoro. I think that the settings you need to adjust are in the DVD player not the receiver. Generally when I've heard about this problem it is because the DTS option hasn't been enabled in the DVD player menu. Also a question I feel bad asking, you do know that DVD audio comes on a seperate kind of disc right? By that I mean you have to buy a DVD Audio dic, not just any old dvd or cd. I'm not trying to be rude, I had no idea what DVDA was when I'd first heard of it. Several of these types of disc have a digital (DD or DTS) version of the tracks available in conjunction with DVDA. Also some players require you to enable DVDA as well. Could you provide a model # and brand so that we could help more specifically?

The DVD player is a panasonic F87. It shows DVD-Audio on the screen when the DVD audio track is highlighted, but only stereo comes out of the receiver when I push the 7.1 button on the front. When I go back to Auto, I get surround and it displays Dolby D on the receiver.

I am trying to play a DVD-A version of The Soft Bulletin, which also has standard surround tracks.

I've got the same player and I love it. Good choice ;).

Ok to enable DTS push setup, go into your menus, select the audio tab and switch DTS from PCM to bitstream. Don't ask me why but it is factory defaulted to PCM which means off as far as we're concerned. Now you have DTS as long as the DVD in question has a DTS track. Of course you have to go into that DVD's soundtrack and manually select the DTS track, but other that that you're fine.

As for getting the 5.1 mix out of DVD audio you need to stay on the same audio tab and go in to set your speakers up. The default it comes in is 2 channels, meaning 2 speakers. You have to go in and select multiple speakers and then calibrate them all. I haven't done this fo a heck of a long time so I can't remember how easy it was. Good luck and ask again if you need more info or if I'm wrong somewhere\.
