I recently bought a yam. rx-v863 and was under the impression that I could have surround hooked up in family room and my outdoor speakers playing a diff. audio source outside ( as in radio listening outside while wife watches tv inside) I cant really understand if this is possible by reading the manual. I read something and it says to refer to page --- then page --- and doesnt seem to be really clear to me. At the current time I have audio in both areas but it is the same , and dont really feel like listening to Oprah while BBQ ing.:D

Thanks for any and all replies to my silly questions.

Just hook up redundant analog cables to zone 2.

As stated in the first post,Im kinda a newbie to all this so could you maybe elaborate a little more on your reply, Currently have outdoor sp. hooked up to zone b, do I need to move them to extra sp. terminals then hook up some thing else for me to be able to play diff. audio source outside ?

thanks

You have to look in the manual and see how to assign the amp for zone 2 (internal) and then see what terminals you need to use. It is probably the "surround back" but double check as I am not familar with that AVR. Then you will have to run a second set of RCA cables from the source to the AVR. example: DVD/CD player is hooked to zone one via HDMI, run a second set of RCA cables to the AVR for zone 2.

Zone 2 is different than speaker set 'B'. The B speakers will only play the current source and only stereo.

As mentioned, you'll need to consult the manual for how to assign the rear surround amps to amplify zone 2 and how to select the source for zone 2.

The analog cable issue is because most mid-priced receivers do not have DACs (digital to analog converters) for zone 2 so any source you want to play in zone 2 has to be connected to the receiver with an analog audio connection (the normal red and white colored cables). It's ok to have both digital and analog connections for the same source.

I am trying to download the manual but it keeps getting stuck.

Connect the speakers in the second zone to the EXTRA SP speaker terminals and then set the “EXTRA SP ASSIGN” to“ZONE2”.

Then look at page 87 which tells you how to assign the amp for zone 2.

You think the Yammy user manual is bad, you should look at the ones from Denon. I read through mine and then just threw it away!

Hopefully you're only running a 5.1 setup so you can use the receiver's extra internal amps. If 7.1, you'll need a separate stereo amp.

The 863 must use smart amp tech because there's no way to assign the rear channel amps. The manual doesn't discuss how they are assigned for the different uses.

Good point you big old Rat;) I always forget about this since I just run 5.2. Heck, I even run an outboard amp on my zone 3 and forget about that because it is stuffed behind my credenza.

works like a champ dawg!!:D Thanks for the help fellas! Sorry I didnt get back sooner but this morning is the first time I really got to mess with it due to wife, kids, ect. But now problem #2 is finding an antenna that gets good reception enough to lock in the HD radio signals. I have this in a remote location in storage closet with in wall speakers all connected to TV via cat5 hdmi extender. So far all is ok but the FM reception leaves a lot to be desired. Any suggestions for an FM antenna?

Thanks again

Glad it worked.

No idea on the FM antenna, I have never even turned my AVR to the tuner section.

manuals aren't for common user but for specialist. But pro don't need one ...
