Okay, I'm a real newbie here. Hopefully you won't laugh too much at what is probably a really easy situation.

Background - I have a 37" Olivia tv. A YSP 1100 Soundbar, an MX Subwoofer and (soon hopefully - if my ebay purchase gets delivered) an Oppo dvd player (presently using a Sony). I also have mediacom HD cable.

I am having a hard time figuring out the manuals - what gets hooked up to what in what order. The YSP manual appears to be quite complete; it tells me how to hook the sound bar to the cable and the sound bar to the dvd, and the soundbar to the tv, and the soundbar to the subwoofer, but it doesn't seem to work when I try all the steps. No "on screen" display from the sound bar - etc. Of course nobody labels things the same.

Does anybody know of a really easy resource that would help me walk through this. I know it is supposed to be easy. Just doesn't seem as easy as the old days when we hooked up the turntable, cassette player to the receiver and the two speakers - all was well. Red cables and White cables. Now we have red, white, orange, yellow, hdmi, optical, blue, green, another white - etc. Add four remotes and it's just a little too much for this middle- aged mind!

Welcome to the forum! Getting everything set up can be a hassle if it's new to you. People here are a great resource, and you can also check out the Audioholics "Tips and Tricks" section - including this one on setting up your system.

One thing that you wrote caught my attention - that you don't get the on-screen display. I seem to recall that those Yamaha bars won't output the OSD through certain video outputs. Check out your manual on that one. It could be that you're using on of the video connections that the OSD just doesn't work on.
