dual woofer questions: box size calculations

I am getting ready to try my hand at building my first set of loudspeakers. It will be patterned after the Goldwood kit found in the kits section of Speaker City's web site, using dual woofers, mid, and tweeter. Since I live in Puerto Rico, and the shipping would kill me, I opted to not purchase the whole kit, but just the drivers and other small parts and do the rest myself. That means I was not able to purchase plans.

Question is this: How do I calculate box size with a dual woofer system? Will I have to isolate the two woofers and calculate a box size for each, or can I run them both in the same box, wired in parallel? Do I calculate the area of the combined woofers (8" woofers) and start from there to calculate the box size as if it were a 16" (or so) woofer? I would like to go with a ported box if the size works out to be reasonable, but ported or sealed is no big deal.

I expect I'll be asking for help on the crossover in a couple weeks.
