So I'm looking at another DIY sub if I can't swing for a Submersive but the one caveat is it must have a dual voltage capable amp, plate or stand alone, doesn’t matter. I’m just trying to future proof my choice in case I do get stationed overseas. So far in my short search I've found the Elemental Designs LT1300 but am concerned about the talk of it taking out circuit breakers every time it's turned on. I've seen some Dayton plate amps which are dual voltage to include the 1000w version but it looks like the O-Audio ones aren't. I haven't seen ANY pro-audio amps that are.
Commercial subs that come 110/220 ready are really limited. Epik, HSU and Rythmik and of course the ED models that come with the LT1300 are what I’ve found so far. Epik is out of the running for the time being as they are out of stock. HSU, I just think I can do better (DIY---as in maybe the kit from AE with the dual 18” PR and 15” sub) for the money than what the ULS-15 can offer. Rythmik….don’t know if the output will be there for movies.
I don't know what subwoofer I'm going to go with yet (obviously); I guess I need to find out what amps are available to me first before I start down that road. I should just do the smart thing and pay Chris to design me something.

Gawd I ramble when I’m bored.

How are you going to crossover- in the amp or externally? If you plan to use an EQ with crossover, it's a no-brainer to use a separate power amp but so far, I haven't seen any plate amps for the US market that come as a dual voltage unit. You could call some of the manufacturers to find out if they can order something.

Otherwise, you can buy a transformer to step the voltage down once you get to wherever you end up. If the rest of the system is dual voltage capable, only the sub will be using it but you may be able to buy a plate amp made for wherever you end up instead of trying to make it work with an outboard transformer. A good transformer may cost the same as a separate plate amp.

Up by my post count, it lists my location... just helps with people making suggestions IMO... if you were in another country or such...

Why not just go external amps... much more choices....

That's why I'm trying to avoid using a transformer as the larger ones, even used, are expensive. I'm going to use a SMS-1 for now but will probably switch over to a Behringer unit eventually.

XTI's are good amps, just confirm they don't have a rolloff at 20hz - built in highpass, your not gunna want that if your looking for subs that put out in the teens...

Not sure why, but for some reason I have it in the back of my head they did that...

Conflicting reports so far on the LP cutoff......but I might just be going with something else, thanks in part to RMK with his TH-SPuds and now this. The parts list is easy on the wallet, very, very efficient(read: inexpensive amp) and just amazing output.....with just one $150 Dayton woofer.

Back in the 70s when I was in the Navy (spent all my time on Air Force bases - Alex try to briefly keep your mind out of the gutter ), all the bases in Europe that I knew of converted their electricity to 120 volts. It was still 50 Hz AC not 60 Hz like in the US, but most things other than clocks and turntables worked fine. If you live off base, you have to deal with with the 220 volts on your own. If and when you get overseas, you probably can buy transformers on base at a better price than here. Often people who are returning sell theirs cheap.

I guess the army didn't follow suit because everywhere I went it was all 220v.
