I finally got a DTVPal DVR, and I am very happy so far. This is something that is good for someone who watches broadcast HDTV and wants to be able to time shift shows and not pay a monthly fee to do so. You can read about it at:

I have only used it a very short time, but so far, I really like it.
It isn't a perfect device (what is?), but it does what it is supposed to do. No hookup to your phone, no monthly fee, and it records broadcast DTV (both standard and HD programs).
