DTS Decoder

Hi,

My current bedrm setup is pretty simple. DVD player to TV via HDMI, TV to Polk SDA IHT via RCA. Can someone guide me what shd i do in order to play my DVD in DTS? Is there a DTS decoder exists?

Hi. Have you selected the DTS soundtrack on the DVD? If so, do you get audio? If so, then the DTS is being decoded.

If you aren't getting audio when you select the DTS soundtrack, then we might be able to get it working for you. Your DVD player and/or TV might be capable of decoding it for you. So, if you aren't getting DTS audio, please let us know the model numbers for your DVD player and TV, and we'll try to help you out.

I don't think it will be possible to get DTS with that soundbar. You only have a right and left RCA input on the sound bar so in is receiving a 2-channel input which it will distribute to the different drivers or to the sub.

I believe some sound bars can take an optical input which could transmit a decoded DTS signal to the sound bar.

My DVD player is the toshiba XDE500 and my TV is Sharp Aquos LC-42A65M

When i switch the audio to DTS, there will be a sharp beeep sound and the vocals became tiny, almost mute.

ADK appears to be correct. The only inputs that soundbar can accept is a two channel (stereo) analog input. Even if you could somehow get a DTS decoder, which I doubt, all it would handle is two channels of audio.

If you really want DTS/DD, you'll be best served by a receiver and a full set of speakers.

What I was getting at was the DVD player and/or TV being able to convert DTS into two-channel audio that would be passed to the soundbar through the RCA inputs.

Because the OP is getting audio, one of them is decoding the DTS soundtrack. I think the trick is to get it to sound good. I'll take a look at the manuals and see what I find.

That DVD player will not decode DTS. I'm still trying to find the manual for that TV.

I dont think Sharp upload their tv manuals. I only manage to find the tv specs..

Sorry that I can't be more help. If I could find the manual, I'd check if the TV can decode DTS and if there are some optimal settings when using your soundbar. If you can't get it to work, I'd say don't worry about it. I'll bet that Dolby Digital is going to sound just as good on that soundbar. That's not a joke about the soundbar - just that Dolby Digital and DTS would probably sound similar on your system.

Craig and Mark had good advice if you want DTS and are willing to get different equipment. You can (at least in the U.S.) get fairly inexpensive DVD players that will decode DTS.
