I think it will be close and will depend on the size of your room and the volume you listen at.

It will be easy to add an outboard amp if it doesn't work.

I've never heard my amp clip before. What should I be on the look out for? My speakers are setup in the living room and we've got a pretty open floor plan so its a rather large room. For the most part I don't listen to them too loud but occasionally crank it up. I've heard a lot of people driving these with regular A/V receivers so I suppose I will hope for the best.

Just listen for anything that sounds different and then turn it down as quick as possible if you hear it.

I would try it and see how it works and then add an amp if needed. I am a big believer in providing extra power to speakers.

Sgt Pepper,

I am about to purchase my first set of axioms. I have a decent size room, and plan on using the M60 v2's with qs8's and a VP150 center and will be including a SVS sub as well, probably a PB-12 + or a PB 12 NSD

I noticed you were awfully excited about moving from M60s up to M80's, were you unhappy with the M60's... I am just wondering if I should make the jump now before I pull the trigger on the M60's

Whats your opinion on the M60's???

any feedback would be great!!!

Thanks,
Matt

I love my M60s. They sound incredible. The ONLY reason I got the M80s is because I found an incredible deal on a used pair ($650 for the speakers including shipping). Plus, I am moving out of my current house soon, where I live with my younger brother. He has been lamenting over not having speakers when I move out and asked me to be on the look out for some speakers for him. So I'm going to sell him my M60s :) That said, the M60s are an excellent speaker and can be easily driven with an A/V receiver. Now I am just worried about my receiver being able to handle the M80s :( I almost wish I would have found a great deal on another pair of M60s so I wouldn't be having this issue....

Nice deal...

That sounds like a good grab. I will stick with my original decision then. I like the idea of the M60's from what I have heard from reviews and discussions they are very clear and concise, have a great range and along with the QS8s and a VP150 along with a SVS sub I should be in pretty good shape!

Any setup suggestions when it comes to the axioms? I am working with EMP compact speakers right now so this is going to be a big step for me!

Thanks for the follow up!

Matt

They get in today. I will give it a go when I get a chance and let yall know the results. Here's to hoping I don't fry my amp.

Ok, well I hooked them up and played some 2 channel music (Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots :) )through them. The max volume I turned it up to I read about 83 dB on my SPL meter. Didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. I'm going to try some 5.1. I figure that will put a bigger strain on my receiver? Is clipping something that will happen right away or can using the receiver for an extended period of time cause it?

You won't get any clipping with that receiver. You are probably able to get around 200w x 2 into 4 ohms, far more power than you need to drive those speakers to insanely loud levels in all but a small auditorium.

The two issues that M80 owners have run into is overly sensitive protection circuitry shutting the receiver down when the speakers draw more current or shutdown from overheating on receivers from manufacturers that 'cheaped out' on the amps/power supply in favour of wall to wall features.
