I thought it would be fun to see where everyone stands on this subject.

It's hard to say because it depends so much on the actual speaker design.

A better question might be...

A company allows the engineering department to design a speaker that will cost $100 for them to produce. Would you rather have a three way speaker, or a two-way speaker with the money-saved from the lack of a third driver being spent on a better crossover and other components in the speaker?

Even that doesn't account for many of the factors involved in such a debate though...

Like the older Infinity's and McIntosh wall of speakers - I'd have 25 tweeters, 8 midranges, 4 mid woofers, and 2 woofers in two cabinets. I'd be out on the street too when the better half came home! Imagine the power you need to drive those things.

A general debate on the number of drivers is virtually meaningless. Just slightly less meaningful than debating the number of gears a transmission should have for an automobile.

Personally, I want that new 7 speed automatic from Mercedes.

That said, I voted for a 3way. Nothing beats a good design midrange speaker.

I think, without limits it would be best to create a sphere of sound, kind of like that dome in x-men 2 where xavier puts on the human/mutant helmet, oval or circle...I don't know. Youd put woofers tweeters mids and whatever other type of speaker you could pack in there. That'd be awesome...you could have sounds coming from you from every conceivable angle...even from below and directly above. Anyways, I noticed that having a midrange is kind of nice so I voted for 3-way. Most of us use a few speakers and there are so many ways of arranging them so weve actually got on a 5.1 setup maybe 4 woofers, 0-4 midranges, 2 midwoofers (those are new to me and I really like them), 5 tweeters, and a sub or two of varying designs, and that's on a simple set-up...That's really a vast array of drivers, hey, I didn't check out that speaker mentioned above but I vote for that one!
