I have been listening to Drive By Truckers after I heard them on X Country XM 12, they remind me of a band from maybe the 90s but I can't put my finger on the band they remind me of. Any other alt-country fans out there?

I have A Blessing and a Curse. It is pretty good. I haven't picked up the new one yet.

I'm not certain who they remind you of but the album I have (Dirty South) is more the Lynyrd Skynrd southern rock vein.

I have A Blessing and a Curse and like it, I also have The Dirty South and don't like it as well, it's really depressing. I think maybe the other group I was identifying them with could be Uncle Tupelo.

I picked up their new 'Brighter Than Creation's Dark' CD a little while back and really do believe this is their best CD yet, this is actually one of those CDs that gets better and better each time I listen to it and am really digging it a lot.

'3 Dimes Down', 'Righteous Path', 'Self Destructive Zone' and 'A Ghost To Most' are all especially good tunes.

If you like DBT, do yourself a favor and go get this album!

How about Southern Rock Opera; it's worth a listen. Actually it's quite a listen, a double CD, the theme being a "spiritual history" of Lynyrd Skynrd. It's an odd album but quite likable if you ever liked southern rock. The Drive By Truckers guys are a good performing band and this is an interestingly good CD pair.

Oh yeah....:)

If you like DBT, give these groups a try:

Government Mule (or Warren Haynes)
Ghost Riders Band
Medicine Hat
Panic In the Streets
Little Feat
Outlaws
Marshall Tucker
Allman Brothers Band
Charlie Daniels Band
Blackfoot
Stillwater
Molly Hatchet
Poco

But for your basic alt. country...oh man...

Last Train Home
Jono Manson
Mark Olsen
Crosstownallstars (Tommy Crain)
Two Cow Garage
From Good Homes
Jupiter Coyote
The Lonesome Brothers
Uncle Tupelo
Kevin Welch and the Danes

Want more??? There are tons of great southern rock and hot alternative country bands out there. They're still makin' good music.

I've heard about half of them, my favorites being anything live by the Allman Brothers and Uncle Tupelo. No Depression is one of my desert island discs
