Some advice please.

I have a Panasonic SA-XR55 AV receiver which states that the speakers connected should have a 6 ohm impedance. I am wanting to purchase a friends Wharfedale Moviestar 70+ speaker system but these only have a 4 ohm impedance. Will this damage the receiver or affect the quality of the output.
Many thanks

I checked the specs on that receiver. It is rated to 100w stereo/ch at .09%thd. not a bad spec but it is for 6 and 8 ohms. So, depending on the speaker's sensitivity and how loud you want to play them, this may not be the right receiver, or speaker for it.

I hear that the Panasonic receivers from that series run hot during normal operation. I would be extremely carefull with 4 ohm speakers with that reciever.

It is true. I had a Panasonic receiver before I got my 2700 and boy did it run HOT. I could almost use it as a space heater in a smaller room. I was using 4 OHM speakers, Advent Smaller Loudspeakers to be exact, but it never did have any problems and it never shut down. It still works fine to this day. The 2700 blows it away though. My Panasonic receiver was not one with digital amps, however.

I am not sure an entry level receiver will drive it properly, especially at loud level. What is the sensitivity on that speaker? That is also important to know.

The sensitivity of the satellites are 88db and the centre speaker 90db.
Any further advice

Keep it low if you must pair this up. Or, consider other speakers? 4 ohms are a load on amps.

How would the moviestar 70+ speakers match up witha Denon AVR 2801 receiver?
It seems like this receiver can handle the 4 ohm speakers

Yes, that would be a much better combination indeed.
